anyone know what these CD's are like. can you install it on a non dell machine? do you need the serial number?

pretty sure you cannot install it on a non-dell machine...

the recovery CD's suck becasue they dont give you an Original Windows OS disk

i am pretty sure the recovery CD's are just ghosts of the machine's factory settings. so it wont work

Dell Recovery Disk for my inspiron 8200 was a Windows XP Home OS CD. Nothing different from standard Retail except OEM folder with help files nad Dell Customizations. otherwise, exact copy.

Haven't tried to install on another computer.

Geez, after reading this, I'd like to make my own recovery CDs so that my ignorant friends would just pop those in rather than give me a call.
