Dell windows 7 recovery disk.

Was wondering if a Dell windows 7 recovery disk will work on any pc, or just a Dell? There are several on ebay cheap. Was thinking of buying one for my girlfriends pc to upgrade from Vista to Win 7. Its not a Dell though.
 
If it's anything like the Dell XP discs, it will install the OS without a keycode, but will not activate. On a dell, it is SLP-locked in the BIOS, and it will auto-activate.
 
Also, even if used on a Dell, it's looking for a key in the Dell BIOS that indicates the PC originally came with Windows 7. An earlier Dell BIOS, one that came with XP or Vista, doesn't have that key.
