dell will now install firefox for only $26

dell wouldn't charge for something which is free (like firefox) so i guess installing firefox will cost dell $26 in labour charge.

People always neglect this when they want to be snarky about customer support.

Yes, firefox is a free, open source piece of software. Having someone spend a half hour remotely logging into someone's PC, troubleshooting any potential installation issues, and installing the software means you've got a PC technician doing labor, and $50/hr is actually a fairly competitive rate for home support.

You can ask me to install Firefox for you if you don't want to pay dell, but I'll certainly charge you more than $26 for it. My time is worth money, just like theirs.

The only time I would pay an OEM for anything special is to order a computer with jut the basics installed on it and No CrapWare or TrialWare or BundleWare some of which can be a real pain to remove. If I want those garbage, next to useless programs, I can find something similar for myself.

That's nice..
