Has anyone had experience with Dell's Warranty replacement service? My power button stuck on my 1905FP monitor, and they won't fix it, but will replace it with a refurbished monitor.

Is that fair? Anyone know a way around this?

Entirely fair.

Your warranty extends to the refurb monitor, IIRC, so it's really not an issue.

Once it's on your desk, you won't even know it's a refurb. You send them a used one, you get a used one.

it stuck on or it stuck off? stuck on isn't so bad

i might just would leave it if it is working fine otherwise as you could end up with a bad screen or something major in the refurb

Well.....to be honest, I'm a firm believer in refurbished parts. They've already been tested twice...and are probably in good shape. They wouldn't send you anything crappy....and if they do...simply return the one they sent you when they try to replace it and have them ship you another....

Dell has been pretty good with their warranty support in the last 5 years I've been workign with them. They are usually prompt and don't leave issues hanging for too long. I just don't like it when I have to deal with India...it sucks to speak with people who can't speak English very well. They're getting better, I hope...

The monitor is actually stuck powered on, but it is annoying when I am watching a movie because it is so bright.

I was under the assumption that a part can be returned, and something can be done to it that will lower the lifespan of the part, but still work.

Think about it like this.. You buy a CPU, and something happens to it so it doesn't work anymore. You call Intel to replace it and they send you a NEW CPU, not a refurbished one.

I wouldn't worry about it unless the (new) refurb is damaged or has more dead pixels than your original LCD.

I had the same situation with a LCD.

I would take the refurb. If you have a problem with that one, Dell will replace it.

Argggg. I was really hoping others would agree with my logic on this one. It would be nice if I could just take it down to a local computer repair shop and have them fix this really simple issue.

just take the replacement..

1.) it's not like you're taking the warranty time of the replacement, if you have 2.5 years left on your monitor, you'd still have 2.5years of warranty on your replacement. So even if you get another bad one, your warranty will still be in effect.

2.) when it is determined that you need a replacement, they usually send you the replacement the next day...at least that's with small-medium business coroporate users.

3.) like the other guy said, refurbs aren't really all bad...most of them are open box returns that have absolutely no problems at all, but they can't sell them as new anymore...

Makes a little bit more sense now that I know some more about the Dell refurbs.

I've done several dell lcd rma's over the last couple months. Every single one I've gotten has looked new and worked fine.
