Looking at a Dell vs Lenovo Thinkpad and also the screen sizes.

I want something portable, but I won't be walking too far with it (mainly to class), so size isn't *absolutely* critical.

I want a nice screen, but I will not be doing anything other than note taking and office type tasks so I might sacrifice size and resolution vs weight.

I have heard the Lenovo 15" is MUCH nicer than the 14" but I also don't like the idea of the extra size and weight.

Can anyone comment on these machines?

My school suggests a Dell.

Here's your first piece of advice:

Don't buy a laptop for the purpose of bringing it with you to class

Actually, that's a crappy advice. More and more students want to take note on their laptop, having everything digitized is a big plus for some.

I would recommend a tablet PC, so it will be easier to take notes, graph...etc. But if you are good with Word, Excel....then just go with regular laptop. Oh btw, Lenovo for the win!

Um, no not really. I see very few people with laptops at lecture and those that do are normally surfing Myspace or chatting on AIM/solitaire. I have personally tried to take notes on a tablet PC and it can not replace a pencil and paper.

You are basically required to have a laptop for law school.

I can't speak for law school in class...but I just said I don't recommend bringing it if you don't have to. You can get one and use it for group work and such, but otherwise I find it as a distraction
