Dell vs HP notebooks?

Argo

I priced too high end notebooks, one is HP Pavilion and the other is Dell Inspiron. As far as features and price go they are very similar, so I was wondering what does the community think?

How much are you looking to spend? You could sometimes find higher quality notebooks than Dells or HPs at slightly cheaper prices.

Based on the HP notebooks I've seen, they tend to be a little bit higher in quality than the Dell consumer line of notebooks.

Look at the Dell Latitude line. I wouldn't go anywhere near an Inspiron. The price difference shouldn't be major.

and i agree with brainonska on the hp vs dell thing.

what's the budget? and what'll you be using this for?

The budget is around $1500. I'll be using it mostly for dev work, entertainment etc. Some of the requirements are 17" screen and 2GB of ram, others are pretty flexible.

Thanks for the great advice btw, keep it coming.

I've been using Dell laptops for the past ~3.5 years and have only had positive experiences with the company and products.

Are inspirons that horrible? The price difference between them and the next closest brand is almost $200 right now.

No, they're not. I'm currently using an E1405 and I love it.

I paid about $1550 for a latitude d620 back around Thanksgiving. No 17" screen though. But it has a C2D, 2GB RAM and lots of other goodies. It's been rock solid.

I was in your boat for the past few weeks going back and forth between HP and Dell. Both are so similar price wise for virtually the same specs but in the end HP wanted like 70 or 80 bucks for shipping whereas Dell has free shipping. I chose Dell again. I've used a Dell Latitude C640 that just broke down but up until then I've had nothing but happy use out of my old Dell and the Dell support wasn't bad in my books. Good luck to you, either way, HP or Dell you will have a fine machine.
