Dell vs eMachines?

Looking for an affordable new laptop. Either before or after rebates. It needs to be light for portability to and from work, vacation, etc. When looking at a laptop should I stay away from the celerons? The laptop will be used for school and day to day activities. Word processing, DVD, MP3, surfing... I have been looking at the inspiron series from Dell, but have read that their support is horrendous now. The eMachines is seeming to get good reviews like the 8605 at Best Buy. Who should I go with?
 
How light is light to you? Will you be gaming? Comfortable with overclocking video?
If not, get an Acer 4501 or similar, or go ahead with an emachines M68XX. What is your price range? Either of the above can be had for around $1200-$1350
