I am building a PC soon. I went the cheap way on my old PC, and that was a bad idea. Now, I am deciding on buying two monitors. Which has a better picture and will last longer? They are both 1920x1200p and are a 16:10 format. The monitors are a Dell Ultrasharp U2412M or an Asus PA249Q.

Do you mean the Asus P248Q? The 249 is a higher class panel with a much higher price and doesn't directly compete with the U2412M.

I have been looking at the same monitors, and my understanding is that they use the same panel (I have not confirmed this, just seen it mentioned several times) so it might come down to what features you like. The Asus has USB3 while the Dell is USB2. The Asus seems to offer more connection options as well.

Just to throw one more out there, if you can live without the USB ports and an adjustable stand the Asus VS24AH-P will save you a good chunk of money, is also a 1900x1200 IPS screen, and seems to get very good user reviews. I think that might be the one I end up going with.

This weekend I shopped for a monitor. I settled on the Dell U2412M because of connection options. It has DVI - the Asus models I looked at did not. Pricewise, the Dell was a better value for my system and usage.

I got a Dell IPS monitor a couple of months back and while it's only S series and not Ultrasharp it is far and away the best monitor I have ever owned. If my other 2 monitors die I will be buying 2 more S2340M's.
