The normal Vostro color is "Aberdeen Silver." The red color is $30 more. The Inspiron Mini can be had in red or blue at that price, or a few other colors for more money.
There is a ship date of 11/11/2011 on silver and 11/04/2011 on red, so don't buy if you need it right away.
Dell charges sales tax to all states. There is free shipping (lower 48 States) on the Vostro, and $25 shipping on the Inspiron Mini.
The Vostro V131 is a nice little notebook with a 13.3" 1366x768 screen. It gets an estimated 9.5 hour battery life and weighs only 4 pounds (though one place on Dell's site listed it as 3.6 pounds???). It has a premium feel with a metal exterior and is very thin (except for the battery jutting out). Sure, there are plenty of cheaper Sandy Bridge based notebooks, but I guarantee that none will look as nice.
IMO the $599 deal is better, but the $489 deal is there in case someone just wants it really cheap. The $99+shipping netbook add-on is almost a must-buy.
Note that extended warranty on the V131 is really cheap. You can get an additional 2 years (3 years total) for $80. This extended warranty includes on-site service. That's about half the going rate for extended warranty. I still wouldn't buy it, but...
