dell Vostro Laptop

They don't have junk pre-installed and since Vostros are geared towards businesses, I'm guessing they should be a step up from the Inspirons. A co-worker bought a Vostro 1500 w/C2D T5250, 4GB RAM & XP Pro SP2 for $600 during Thanksgiving sale and he's pretty happy with it. Besides, almost all Vostros have the option to still install XP so that's always a plus for me.

yeah that lack of junk is really appealing. i wish more companies did that. from what i've heard the Inspiron line is mostly plastic, where the vostro has a more solid build to it. some people have commented those vostro laptops are a little on the chunky side however

I'm enjoying my 1500, with Vista HP no less. I upped to 4GB of mem. on my own and it's been able to run pretty much everything I've thrown at it so far. Even Crysis runs very nicely at medium settings. I have the 2.0 Ghz DC, 8600mGT, 7200 rpm HD, Wireless-N, etc...

The build is extremely solid, but it's a tad bulky as well. But mine replaced an aging desktop, so little travel for my needs.

i enjoy my 1400 with vista hp as well. Im thinking about putting xp pro sp3 on it, because dell offers all the xp drivers now for vostros. I have a 8400m 256 that overclocks very well like 40% on core/shader in perf. 3d mode. it has 2gb, core2duo T7100 Merom, 120GB, dvdrw, 14.1 inch.

I like it. paid 520 for it on ebay.

Just grabbed a Vostro 1400 refurb from the Dell outlet. They are reminiscent of Thinkpads (same basic styling as an R series thinkpad) all matte black, solid, no frills.

Paid $549 for a T5470 (1.6ghz/800fsb), 128mb geforce 8400gs, WXGA true life screen, 2gb ddr667, 80gb hitachi 5400rpm (surprisingly quick), 8x DVD burner, A/G wifi, bluetooth, 4 usb, firewire, gigabit nic, blah blah blah. Wiped the hdd and installed XP Pro and it is quick and solid.

Shocking what $550 will buy today. I remember my first Dell lappy cost $2200 (also from the Dell Outlet), it was a Pentium 75mhz w/ 24mb ram and we all oohhed and aahhed at what a sweet deal I got.
