So I found this Vostro 1320, it's a new model, and this cupon 9TLZ6FC3V8WP90 which gives 35% off anything over $950. Now this laptop as customized is exactly $954 and just qualifies. After the cupon it comes to $600 even. I can add bluetooth for $25 (before the 35% savings) and a webcam but I'm not sure how useful either of those are for me. I'm considering the bluetooth upgrade. I'll probably add another 2GB DIMM when I get this.

Core 2 P8600 (2.4, 3MB)
1 year warranty
13.3 inch WXGA
2GB (1 DIMM)
9300M GS 256MB
160GB 5400RPM
b/g wireless

I don't really need this laptop until September when college starts and I'm willing to wait if anyone thinks it'll be worth my time. It's just that $600 seems like a great deal for a 4 pound notebook with dedicated graphics and a high-end processor. I question the short warranty and 6-cell battery though. Are there any better deals currently available on Dell's site (or any other) for a 12-14 inch laptop with similar specs?

I was interested in the vostro 1520.

But then I heard some of the vostro's had a fan noise problem and I found this:

If you get it let us know if you have the same problems.

also I wanted the magnesium alloy chassis. But that only comes with the red color version.

Hm...should I get it without the nvidia card? I could add a better wireless card, bluetooth, a camera and mic for a little more than the cost of the graphics card and I bet the system would run cooler and have a longer battery life. I think I would lose the ability to play HD content smoothly though.

According to some forums, the fans in the 1320 are quieter but switch on and off often.

Since all machines sold after July 1 will come with an upgrade voucher for Windows 7, I'd recommend waiting at least until then. There are always a lot of deals for back to school too.
