Dell Vista Won't Boot

Will not boot at all. Tried using start up disk and was running diagnostic test when it suddenly stopped and locked up. Error came up on screen: Exception occurred in module DISK.MDM! Warning: Invalid parameter! Press any key to abort! Can't do anything on screen to even abort. Overall progress is stuck on 73%, test status is running IDE read test. Got through L2 Cache. Skipped SATA Disk S/N = Confidence Test. SATA Disk S/N = Device Quick Check is OK. SATA DISK S/N=Smart Long Self Test is N/A. Please help, what is wrong with my computer??????
