Here is my review of the 2014 Dell Venue 8, 8" KitKat Tablet

First off, there are two models with the exact same name.

2013 version: Intel Atom Z2580 32-bit cpu, 16gb/32gb storage options, 2GB Ram, 1280 x 800 res, android 4.2, has gps and micro-sd slot

2014 version: Intel Atom Z3480 64-bit cpu, 16gb storage only, 1GB Ram, 1920x1200 res, android 4.4, no gps and micro-sd slot.

Venue 8 runs Android while Venue 8 Pro runs Windows.

Benchmarked the Venue 8 with my Nexus 7 using Quadrant Standard Edition.

The result? The Venue 8 cpu speed was a lot faster than the Nexus. ran the same test 3x in a row. Impressive.

Pros:
* Powering on the Venue 8 1st time, there was a bios update to perform.
* Speakers located a front bottom and are amazing even at lower levels.
* IPS screen is vivid and the 1920x1200 res really makes games come to life.
* No lag in rotation or dead spots on the touchscreen, Android 4.4 is very smooth. Not sure if screen is gorilla glass ?
* Back of unit is hard non-scratch plastic, screen is not a fingerprint magnet.

Cons:
* You have to pry off this cheap pull out tab to insert a microsd card and the card itself drops too far into the unit, you'll need a coin to lock it place.
* No GPS chip. If you want to use to to route a trip, it won't work.
* Dell included a very short microusb cable to charge this, optional dock with a usb 3.0 port would have been a better choice.
* Only comes in 16gb, perhaps a 32gb model is in the works.

Overall, the Venue 8 performs better than the Nexus 7 at least it seems that way. Nexus 7 has no micro-sd slot for expansion.

The Venue 8 was $149.99 over the Labor Day weekend, Nexus 7 cost $260 on Amazon which is about to go back.

Have the nexus 7 and its more than enough for all the 3D games I like to play, as well as onboard 1080p movies.
