Dell Ultrasharps 2407 vs. 2410

I recently took a bit of a gamble and picked up a refurbished Dell Ultrasharp U2410 from Amazon for a client. Now, I've had my 2407 for awhile and I have the option to keep one or the other for myself.

I did a quick check today and the 2410 seems to be in perfect order just a bit of grime on the screen and stand. So the question is, is there much of a performance between the panels, (I slightly prefer the all black look of the 2410)?

About the only info I found thus far is here in this Overclockers UK forum that stats the 2410 has a wider color gamut but that’s about it.

Thoughts?

Thoughts? You have two great monitors, you have the choice to keep one, and so far the only thing that interests you is the colour of the bezel.

Now me, i would hook both up to my PC, turn them on and do a side by side comparison to see which PICTURE i prefer the look of and which one performs better with my daily usage. Thats just me though

I'd stay with the lower wattage U2410.
Use the other as a backup or sell it off.

Good grief. Are you seriously saying you would buy a monitor based on its power requirements? That's your deciding factor? Do you guys buy cars based on the colour of the foot pedals? Perhaps the capacity of the expansion tank is the first thing you look for?

Anandtech forums have reached a new low.

My main question is, is there much of performance difference between them, are they same panel, is one technically better than the other?, ect., I thought that was pretty clear. As a side note I prefer the all black bezel as I think the silver accent on the top and bottom a bit desecrating so if the panel performance is otherwise the same I'd choose based on that.

My desk isn't really designed to accommodate it but I'll try to get them both setup and do a comparison.

No, they are not the same panel. The U2410 has a wider color gamut. Depend on your usage, that may or may not matter at all.

As another U2410 and 2407WFP owner, I will say that my U2410 was a bit oversaturated in stock form (probably as a result of the wider gamut). Switching to the Adobe RGB preset fixed that though.

Alright, so I'm sure I knew it at one point but I didn't realize the 2407 was a PVA panel, so yeah there should be some differences and there are. I haven't set them side by side but I'm not going to even bother as I've found a problem with the 2410; there are vertical gray lines on the right 1/3 of the screen which is a shame as I don't see any other problems, too bad :(.

As to the differences, colors diffidently seem more saturated even with the Adobe preset. Black levels appear to be better, though maybe I need to tweak my 2407 a bit more. Viewing angle seems about the same though technically IPS should be better?

Hopefully I don't have any issues sending this back.

Dell may give you some grief if you're not the registered owner, but they should still take it back (assuming it's in the warranty period of course) as long as you're firm.

Oh and if the colors still seem saturated with the Adobe preset, try the sRGB one. That should fairly well approximate the 2407.

I actually bought it from a Amazon seller and they are being very cool about it. They will be sending me a pre-paid shipping label and are giving me the option of a full refund, a used 2410 at discounted price, or to I can wait till they get more refurbished units from Dell.

I did try the other color presets and all of them seemed a bit saturated compared to the 2407, I'll keep playing with it though till I send it back (probably Monday). I did notice though that the black levels seemed to be a bit better than the 2407, but again, more tweaking may be in order.
