Been eyeballing some new monitors to replace a 17'' 1440x900 model and well i keep hearing about the Dell ultrasharp monitors and am currently eyeballing this particular model in my price range of $350 or less....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824260047

Anyone know of a better model?I saw a $310 asus model non gloss 27'' but i keep hearing these ultrasharps are well worth their money.

Looking for solid blacks if possible, super crisp picture and a taller then average stand as my current monitor is sitting on top of a motherboard box like ghetto fabolous.:awe:

Ordering whatever monitor in a few hours so would be thankful if any of you could help me pick one out.:)

Monitors are kind of a personal thing, what looks good to one person might look like crap to someone else. I will say I've used some UltraSharp's in the past... I had a 27" 1920x1200 model I forget the name of now... Loved that thing until a a ways past the end of the warranty it developed a horizontal line. Gave it to my dad who isn't as bothered by such things as I am. AFAIK he's still using it.

I'm not going to recommend anything for obvious reasons, but I will say that if you go with an Asus and end up having any issues with it, then I might be able to help out. I don't do a lot of monitor support, but I sit right behind the young lady who does.

That's not as good as the good ultrasharps. The one you have linked is eIPS. The good ones are sIPS.

The better ones are out of my affordability as well.:p

Watched a few youtube videos concerning the sideviewing of the u2412m and it seems just fantastic and considering my monitor also serves as a t.v,seating has always been a issue for my gf and me,or any other guests who watch stuff as well.

Maybe hopeful wishing there's a 27'' model screen that can offer nearly the same as the u2412m at the same price or near it but would give up those few inch's for pure quality anyday.

Dell support is terrible if that's an important factor in making your decision. Stick to Asus, or Samsung and go IPS for better color quality and viewing angle.

Edit: Added

Have you considered the off-brand Auria from Microcenter if you have one near you? 27'' 2560 x 1440 resolution IPS screen.

I live in the natural state, can't find a quality computer store within 100 miles, let alone in the state so newegg has become my new best friend.:awe: Best Buy does not count and the closest BB is like 50 miles away.:p

2560x1440 would rape my 7850 and prob even a single 7970 which i will be pairing up with my new monitor soon enough and $350 is my max budget for a monitor.

I know some people are always having some sort of issue with one brand, while others have had fantastic experiences, like for example my msi tf3 7850 can't oc 50mhz over stock clocks on stock voltage without a failed oc,but others are pushing as high as 1150+.:|

I have that monitor and I really like it. For the money I've found it to be a great deal. Mine came from Dell with ZERO bad pixels. Anandtech gave it the thumbs up - what more could you ask for?

That really has very limited truth. The biggest difference between the eIPS panels and the pricier SIPS is the bit depth. 6 bit + FRC for the U2412m, and 8 bit for the U2713hm. Not much of a difference, unless you're doing colour important work.

As far as the non-panel characteristics, they're identical.

The U2412m is the only 1920x1200 worth getting <$300; $310 is an ok price for that; this past Black Friday, it was down to $249.

Dell support for Ultrasharp monitors is among the best in the consumer monitor business.

You must never have had to deal with them. I recently ordered a u2312hm directly from Dell on black friday. I received a unit that looked like it was picked up out of a salvation army bin. The panel had scratches, scuff marks and several clusters of dead pixels. I called support, got transfered several times and was on hold for almost 2 hours until I finally gave up. If that is the best support in the monitor business, I'm shocked.

I've ordered thousands of dollars worth of goods from Dell over the last decade and have never once been disappointed with their products or service. I recommend checking out their outlet for monitors if you want to save some more cash (especially with a coupon). The Ultrasharps are great monitors, I highly recommend them.

That's a very good model. It has very low input lag and color is not much worse than the 2410. It's actually better for most casual users. The 2410 can be difficult to calibrate for games, and such.

:

The 2410 is a much more expensive model which i couldn't really justify purchasing,it appears the u2412m is basically the second runner up i am assuming, hell i had no one contradicting the choice so obviously in the $350 or lower price range, its a for sure win.

Just placed my order for the u2412m,can't wait to receive it.

Been using crt monitors and crappy lcd monitors for the last 4 years... the last quality monitor i bought was a creme of the crop gateway 24'' fhd2000 which i spent $500 on in 2008 and till this day,i have no seen a display anywhere that has topped it for color/quality in my book so hoping the u2412m will change that.;)

To used to the"its good enough and it works monitors" and i always remembered how awesome that fhd2000 was,so hope the u2412m could bring back that spark.:p

From what i have heard about the dell monitors, the majority of people keep their screens till the native resolution is rendered obsolete and the freaking thing still still won't fail,so they end up replacing them out of need for the latest and greatest over the simple need over failure.:awe:

I think you will be very happy with the monitor, for the price they are hard to beat. I've been running 3 of them for about 8 months now and they look fantastic.

Also, I would not worry about service. One of the benefits of the ultrasharp line is the premium warranty they come with. The few times I've had to deal with Dell over an ultrasharp issue they express shipped me a replacement first and had me send back the used one, prepaid by them, in the replacement box. Good service in my book.

I'm using a 2312, before that, 2311. I've seen sIPS monitors, yeah, no doubt, they are good. But eIPS is also much better than ordinary monitors at Viewing Angle and color...

My experience with Dell support has been great. I had an issue with my U3011 and they shipped another one out within a few days. New one works like a charm.

Should def get it tomorrow via ups....pretty damn excited about hooking up that bad boy.

Gonna def consider replacing my msi tf3 7850 with a 7970 as i am sure that new monitor is gonna work that 7850 quite well, not sure how much more demanding 1200p is over 1080p.

Meh,maybe if i kill msaa in the upcoming titles, the 7850 might be more then enough for a while.

I think you'll be happy with your purchase. I own two u2412m and one u2211hm and I've never problems with any of them. My two best friends have another 2412, 2212, and 2311 between them and they've all been perfect too. They look great for <$300 monitors--once you get used to IPS (even eIPS) other people's cheap TNs look baaad.

My only (very minor) quibble is that my two u2412m calibrate differently. I was kinda hoping when I bought my second one that it would match my old one perfectly, but it took a lot of fiddling with the RGB levels to get them close. I guess I should have expected this since the panels were manufactured nearly a year apart!

Just received the new monitor less then 2 hours ago, been toying with it for the last half hour and all i can say is WOW.

Not even gonna kid you,all i kept saying when i toyed with some of my games is"holy sh1t" and "omg",this monitor with its color reproduction is absolutely incredible,it makes any other lcd and crt i have used look like a god darn black n white t.v in comparision.

This blows the 24"" fdh2000 gateway i paid $500 for back in 2008 out of the water and makes that thing look like a utter piece of crap....afraid to even touch any settings cause right out of the box this thing is just WOW.

God bless everyone here who convinced me to purchase this thing,i am now a raving fan of the dell ultrasharp screens and would recommend anyone to sell your house, your cars, hell sell your wife if your short cash wise and are looking at any other options.....:D

Please don't recommend it fanboy mode. Recommend it only of the person needs proper colours reproduction.
For most gamers the 144hz Asus would be much much better.
