and you get a new one for one bad pixel for whole warranty period... wonder if my old eyes would notice the difference in this panel from my other, plebian monitors...

This is why I saved up and just bought 2 30" to end it all. My eyes are old and figure I best get big screens so that I can see 🙂

As for this deal I think it's a good deal. Was hoping for it to be released at $300 but for the 16:10 you can't go wrong.

not really, it's an e-ips w/ 6 bit panel

the u2410 is more "professional", the 2412 uses a lot less power though, and is a pretty decent monitor.
what the u2412 brings over standard e-ips monitors is the 24" size (instead of 22-23) and 1920x1200 res (instead of 1920x1080). it's more similar quality wise to those e-ips than the u2410 (8 bit, s-ips)

Yeah I killed some time at work and did some google searching.

It appears that this is 98% of the U2410. Really it's just missing the extended color gamut, the 8 bit hardware, HDMI, and isn't quite as bright. But at almost 1/2 off, I think this is a great deal. You could get 2 of these for not much more than the price of 1 U2410. Unless you have an explicit need for something only the U2410 offers, I would much prefer 2 of these I think.

That said, I still want a U2410 😛 I might grab one or two as secondary monitors though (not that I really need it, but hey 3x 24 inch monitors is better than 1 right?!!?!?! RIGHT????)
 
Even though its a 6-bit display, it seems very nice - from the review:

"Testing the screen with various colour gradients showed smooth transitions with no sign of any obvious colour banding. There was some slight gradation evident in darker tones but overall no issues, and nothing that you don't see on most screens. There was also some slight temporal noise evident, particularly in darker tones if you look very closely. This is a result of the FRC algorithm used to produce the 16.7 million colour palette. It's not something you'd notice in practice, and you do have to look very closely to see it. In reality although the panel used is a 6-bit + A-FRC module, there is no noticeable issue with this in terms of colour gradation and performance."

I have a 23" NEC 1080p e-IPS display, but I'd love to have this instead! The stand and connectivity options are great as well.
 
so this vs a Dell Refurbished UltraSharp 2408WFP 24-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor?
unsure of the differences. I probably wouldnt even be able to tell..

Because this is the ST2220M I do not know if the "M" adds anything like the "L" adds HDMI. Does anyone know how ST panels compare to IPS or TN panels? I have a TN panel Samsung now that I was thinking about replacing with this bundle.

I have the 2407 (which is basically the same as the 2408, but the WFP added some minor stuff), and I'm thinking about replacing it with the U2412M. It's that good. There are some pretty minor differences between the U2410 and this monitor, but regardless BOTH are better than the 2407/8 models. No question about it.

Pretty much in the 24 inch category:
U2410/HP z24xxxxxx <-- two best monitors (until you hit professional price points of like $1000+ for a 24 incher)
U2412M <-- 98% of the U2410/HP monitors. The main things you lose are HDMI, 8 bit in hardware (it has 6 bit with dithering, but is pretty good from reviews), and it's not as wide of a color gamut (sRGB almost exactly vs the extended gamut of the U2410).

Outside of those though, I would get smaller monitors that are IPS (like the 22/23 inchers) before I got a 2407/8. They are great panels, but are showing their age (no hdmi/display port, 2407 is PVA not sure if 2408 is IPS or PVA, not as good of lighting, etc). Plus it's a refurb. I would *only* buy a 2407/8 if I could get one for <$200 in good condition. This is coming from an owner of one of these monitors.

I was a little disappointed by the specs of this monitor. I wanted the U2410 or even HP ZR24w with an LED backlight, an all-around performer. I had almost convinced myself this was the monitor. Instead, it has a 6-bit panel, no HDMI, no speakers. The deal breaker: reports of ghosting and poor color rendering, some based on this review.

Yeah if the ZR24w is cheaper, that's the better deal. By far. Still like the U2410 the most though haha
 
I ordered 2 of the dells to go with my older 24" gateway for some eyefinity but now I'm torn. The dells clearly have the better warranty and will use less power but the HP is an 8 bit panel vs the 6 bit of the dell... dang...

EDIT** I'll stick with the dells. I got the $75 free gift card deal (when you buy $500 in giftcards) so they are effectively $291 each though some SDers got them for $299 by chatting with the reps. That would have put two of them at $261 each... man that would have been nice.

Oh well, these will still be very nice.
