Dell UltraSharp 2001FP 20.1-inch Flat Panel LCD

I'm looking at getting the Dell UltraSharp 2001FP 20.1-inch Flat Panel LCD. I do a lot of gaming, like Counter-Strike:source, FryCry, and such. I want to know if the monitor is good for gaming. I can get it for $561 after discount.

Dell UltraSharp 2001FP

It's pretty good, I've used it before. It's not free of ghosting (no current LCD is, as far as I'm aware), but then again not all people notice that anyway.

I own one I play CS:Source almost every night and it looks great to me. It is also VERY scalable to other resolutions so when the next generation of games come out you won't be forced to use its native resolution 1600x1200. It looks perfectly fine at 1280x960, 1152x864 and 1024x768 this of course is for games only; do NOT run the desktop at anything other than 1600x1200 lol.

your probably going to want a killer video card to run it but its far worth 561 bucks since its only real competition in my opinions is the viewsonic 20 inch which is more than 700

I got this as my first LCD because it proved to be so good at gaming.
I was sure that my Viewsonic PF790 would have to die before I switched, but the 2001FP changed that opinion.

I've experienced nothing on this that didn't also happen on my CRT.
(video card performance-9700Pro)

I think I'm blessed with a bad eye for ghosting effects.

Scaling video games can yield bad results, too, BTW. (NFSU2 at 640x480, ech.)

I've been looking into new video cards, that can push all the games at native res, but for the money, I would rather get another 2001FP and go dual display.

I'm always surprised when someone is selling theirs.
I've yet to see a monitor to compare (for less than double the money...)

Got mine abut a year ago. Love it. Thay also have a widesreen version now, but is that only good for movies? What would it do for games?

I would say buy it.

I currently own the widescreen version (2005FPW). Basically all current games have widescreen support (sometimes it takes a bit of tweaking), and even some of the really old ones (for example, I run Unreal Gold and UT in 1680x1050 native with an increased FOV...).

In addition to the panel's aspect ratio - it also has somewhat better specs than the 2001FP, in that it's brighter, supposedly has a better contrast ratio, and supposedly has lower response times (which seems reasonable, because I think my monitor ghosts less than the 2001FP I'd been using before).

I've had mine since last August, Farcray looks great on it, no ghosting that I can see. I wouldnt part with mine.

I've got a 2005fpw with the same response time. I can tell you that ghosting is painfully obvious to me (my first LCD) on all games. I was hoping I wouldn't notice any, but I cant lie to myself....its definitely there 🙁

My question now is about the Dell Coupons. I missed out ont the deal yesterday where I could have got the monitor for $506. The 25% coupon expires 6am 24th. Should I wait and see if another stackable coupon comes out to lower the price more?

When i transitioned from CRT to LCD, I got a beautiful Samsung 191T 19" with a 25ms response time, and the ghosting was awful.

I then picked up another LCD just for gaming (a 12ms Samsung 712N) and it's wonderful. No ghosting at all. I also had a 16ms Hyundai 17" LCD that was pretty decent - barely any ghosting. But I'm very happy with the 712N.

Got a small problem. I got my 2001FP yesterday. It does great, except for when I have my black desktop up. The up right corner and lower left corner seems have a brighter contrast then the rest of the desktop. Any ideas why?

It's called backlighting. If it bothers you, call them to change it for you

All LCDs do that a bit, but yours sounds defective. Don't have that problem here.

I opened a case with Dell Support last night. They want me to run a Self Test. I will do it when I get home from work.

I agree with the scaling. It looks great at non native resolutions.

I got mine today. I don't think it has much backlight leakage, if any. A black screen is much more uniform on the 2001FP than my Benq FP767. However, the 2001FP did come with at least 8 wonky pixels. On a black screen, there's one that really sticks out, and three that are less prevalent. On a white screen, there are three dark pixels, and one that's less visible. And maybe there are more, who knows. Will call up Dell about getting it RMA-ed.

But other than that, it looks really good. Using DVI of course. My 1700+ & 9600 are a bit pokey for games at 1600x1200. (Upgrading soon.) Portrait mode worked fine w/ the ATI control panel to the screen. The green lights on the front can be a little bright trying to watch movies, so I might do the cover-it-with-post-it method I used on my center speaker. Composite input looks a little fuzzy, but I guess that's to be expected. (Will have to look into the Xbox VGA adapter.)
