I am looking for a 19-20 inch lcd monitor. I read many of the topics in the buyers guide here on Anandtech, but it seems a bit dated in the review area. I couldn't find any info on the Dell UltraSharp 1907FP. Is the 8 ms response time good enough for gaming? Anyone have any experience with this monitor? If this is not really a good monitor for games, what is? Thanks much in advance for the replies.

NEC 90GX2 or 1970GX

Both great for gaming and the 1970GX is only $289.99 @ CDW right now.

I've got the 1907FP and it's a fine monitor for gaming. It's got a fast panel and does the trick for me :D .

I've got a 1905FP and it's great for gaming, even with the somewhat high 16ms refresh rate. I notice no lag or smearing at all, even when gaming at 100+ FPS in CS:S. Some people say the 1907 is inferior to the 1905 since it uses a 6-bit panel to the 1905's 8-bit panel, but IMO it should be fine for gaming.

I'll agree with 996GT2's comment about the 1905 versus 1907. I have a ~ 1year old 1905FP at home and it is much better quality than the 2 new 1907FP's I got at work. And from what I've read, Dell's quality on the all the latest panels has dropped (check out the articles on DVI banding on the 2407FPW, 2007FPW, 2007FP, 1907FP, etc.).

I'd skip the 1907 and look at a different brand. I'd also recommend getting an 8-bit panel, even if it is a little slower response time. The colors (and generally the viewing angles) will be better.

If you can afford it, get a 20.1in WS like the Viewsonic VX2025 (or Dell 2005/7 fpw) which are ~$320.

If you can't, then the dell is just fine. You might be able to fine a cheaper 19in though.

Hmmm...lots of mixed opinions here. In general most seem happy with the Dell at least. In response to wizboy, I thought about the widescreen thing. The problem is, not all games support it...at least not the ones I have been playing. The other problem is the space on my desk...the regular screen would simply fit better. I plan on getting a very big widescreen in the future to use as my television monitor, and I will also use it for gaming. Would think that by then it will be more of the norm to have widescreen settings in the games.
I also saw in another forum that some of the new Dells are coming with the 8 bit panel instead of the 6 bit. Maybe I could request it?? LOL The same forum was saying that the color banding issue has been resolved...a little reassuring.
Thanks for the input guys, any other comments are always appreciated :)

I got a 1907FP for a first lcd and I'm happy with it, no ghosting whatsoever and the only problem I've had is that the factory setting is too bright.

Same with my 1905FP. Once I woke up early at 4 AM to finish a research paper and the LCD KILLED my eyes...had to work with contrast at 10% and brightness at 20%.
