1080p super duper cinematic
dell-u2913wm-overview1.jpg

2560x1080 res.
displayport out for daisychaining video cables
[note: this is dell australia]

http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/...e_bnrank=0&baynote_irrank=0&~ck=baynoteSearch

for those that dont get what this is for:
-no letterboxing on bluray movies in 2.39:1 or wider ratios than 16x9.
-work productivity environments
-simplified widescreen gaming.

-manufacturer gets to make more panels from motherglass used for 2560x1600.

if they made something like this with a 1600 vertical and 3800 horizontal at 36" i would bite in a heartbeat. (dpi would be .221)

Great resolution for a movie buff and first person video games. Kind of awkward for anything else.

I took a look at this thing earlier in the week and got all excited about it until I realized what it was like back when widescreen monitors first came out.

It was such a pain in the rear to always have to figure out how to modify game files and what not to get them to run at my then snazzy new Dell 2005fpw. Is that a thing of the past now? Obviously games are now fully compatible with 16:9 and 16:10 but how about for 21:9?

Yeah but when you can get a 60" 16:9 LCD for the same price, you still end up with a larger viewing area, even if many of those pixels are always black.

i imagine if the game supports any eyefinity res it will likely detect the native res and adjust as long as it is using horizontal+

at least dell is finally including mini-dp inputs along with full dp. wonder if it is daisy chainable.

I saw this on SlickDeals a couple days ago, looks interesting. I share the same concerns as lava, hope there are no headaches for setting the proper resolution in games.

What is the catch? How is it so much cheaper than Dell U2711? What is the catch?

And do 16x9 games scale to fit screen, even if blurred?

With the new near-borderless AOC monitor, these just lost a load of value right as they started appearing.

If you guys all pitch in I have no trouble taking time out of my personal life to try it out and report back my findings and long term impression.

LG came out with one last August the EA93.
came out or announced? i cant find it for sale anywhere. dell is actually shipping rather than paper launching.

2mm bezel ≠ bezel-less
the coverglass may reach the 2mm bezel, too bad the display pixels dont.

I'm just not digging the weird aspect ratio.

It makes sense for a movie screen, but not so much a monitor to me.

Hmmm, due to the wrap around effect I think I would still prefer my eyefinity setup but the lack of bezel while still being very wide is quite appealing.

What wrap around effect? Looks fine to me, if anything its eyefinity that has stretched and distorted side panels.

But powering it would be out of the question for the intended target audience.

Loads of games tested, looks great imo (dont know how to embed youtube here)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rf7FcIgkgDY

Would prefer this over surround/eyefinity any day.

looks like any game that can handle eyefinity or surround can detect the EDID native res and scale appropriately.
only game that didnt play nice was Witcher2.

another vid on the side list shows it playing HD 21:9 material. always nice to get full1080 vertical native res.

one of the youtube vids confirms displayport out for daisychaining, first dell model with this feature.

I mean have the side panels at angles so that the center of each panel is roughly equally distant from your head. For me this gives a good sense of immersion, something that a single wide panel would not offer. I don't really know though since I don't have one of these wide panels in front of me.

I would love to have me one of those they look sweet. But as far as ultra widescreen gaming goes I have to agree with Spike that the ability to run your side monitors with a slight inwards angle is superior to a really wide flat surface.
The stretching and distortion on the peripheral monitors isn't nearly as noticeable in practice as it looks in screenshots.

I really like the concept and I wonder if it will catch on, although at that price I doubt it even if its fairly reasonable for what you get.

With the exception of potential aspect ratio (63:9? lol) issues aside I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. You would need one hell of a desk though and probably atleast a 3-way GPU setup as that would be pushing 8.3MP as opposed to 6.9 MP running 5760x1200 which already makes even high-end GPU's in SLI sweat.
