Saw a Dell U2711 on display at Frys Electronics today. A movie was being displayed on the monitor and the PIX looked really good. Also the monitor looks real nice too. However, it is very expensive having a $1000 price tag. Also, it is 16:9 (versus 16:10 ratio) and does not feature portrait mode capability.
After reading about it on AT there are potential draw back considerations which would relate to buyers based on complaints Ive seen in these forums.
The LCD is CCFL not LED. People were complaining about Asus PA246Q power consumption (75 watts max), but this Dell redlines at a whopping 112 watts! Some dont like the matte screen and prefer non-matte which the Dell does not feature. On the floor, turning it off and on revealed the long re-start time that AT cites (can be up to 15 seconds which also happens supposedly when switching inputs). AT states that the dot pitch may be a bit small in this monitor size for a good number of people (hard to read text) and recommends considering a 30" version instead. I could not evaluate this with the display model. AT does cite some issue with lag under certain input conditions.
All in all, If you can afford it and are in the mood to buy a new LCD monitor, be sure to take a look at the DELL U2711 next time you are at Fry's Electronics.
