Dell U2412M monitor off-axis viewing

Is it just me, or does this monitor have incredibly bad off-axis performance? I'm not talking about standing to the side, or far above it, I'm talking about having my head in a position that is maybe 2-3 inches above the horizontal centerline, and the lower potion of the screen is VERY washed out.

My old 2407 doesn't have this kind of washout even when viewed from almost a +90 degree vertical angle.
 
Mine gets a tad darker, but nothing like my TN displays which crap out much worse. I just shifted my head up and down quite a bit and just noticed a slight change in brightness.

My U2211h does the same thing so I'm guessing this is normal for mainstream IPS.
