It seems to be on slight sale right now at the Dell.com website. They play a bit tricky with the quoted price, but it *is* lower than it has been for the last month.

Is this a good time to buy one, or should I hold out for a potentially better deal?

Bumping this, does the monitor ever go for less then the 499.99? I'm debating replacing my Hanns-G 251HPB and standard 24 inch dell on the side for this monitor, xfire my 5770's full time and call it a day for awhile. Good idea or should I save up for a 6950 and get another junkie Hanns-G TN panel (OCD to match monitors)

Well, I got mine for $499 back a few months after it was released.

Buy the U2410; it is the best 24" monitor I've ever seen for under $1000. Worth every penny in my opinion.

Yep, I got mine for roughly 500 shortly after it was released. I don't believe it dips down there often or has gone below that yet.

I love it, fantastic monitor! Just be aware that its going to be sort of 'grainy', not a glossy finish.

Yeah, I've been doing a lot of research looking for a good 1920 x 1200 Monitor and this keeps coming up.

I haven't seen perfect reviews for it (grainy, color tint, quality control, few other items), and honestly it's damn expensive for some of the issues I'm seeing mentioned.

On the other a lot of people seem to really like this Monitor.

At 1920 x 1200 there's not really a lot of choice - TN or two and this IPS.

From what I've read it's supposed to be a pretty decent gaming Monitor as well, I just don't know that it's worth twice what I can get a decent TN (1920 x 1200) for.

I've had my U2410 since about May 2010 and love it. I use it fairly regularly for PC and Xbox 360 gaming, movies, and TV via HD cable box. I haven't had any problems with it and the picture is very good. For about 4 months I had it sitting next to my Samsung 4071F LCD (~3 years old), and side by side the picture on the U2410 did seem more grainy and less "bright" compared to the Samsung, but it didn't wear out my eyes as fast using it as a computer monitor either (although the Samsung is a lot larger which may have led to more wear).

I came from a 19" Viewsonic VX922 that I had for 5 years which was rated at 2 ms response time so I was a little wary of any ghosting I might find on the U2410, but it hasn't been noticeable to me.

OK, going to pull the trigger then.

Sorry for being a little vague in my original post, but I know "price checks" are sort of frowned upon here. I was trying not to run afoul of forum etiquette.

fyi, my 2408wfp failed and this was the replacement. iirc, it's ips panel, so woohoo! i use it for everything. great for office work etc. i spend a lot of time in eclipse, text editors, and reading pdfs, and i don't get eye strain at all. movies, i tweak all the settings in mpc-hc anyway, so colorwise is great. viewing angles are also superb. photo editing is excellent esp after calibration. games, i'm not a hardcore gamer, so i don't really notice lag or ghosting.

what irks me is the touch buttons instead of physical buttons for osd controls, and the fact that the mounting system makes switching to and from portrait mode difficult.

if you need 24" and 1920x1200, then i would not hesitate to recommend this model!

What the hell do you guys mean by grainy picture??? I don't have this monitor but I have a hard time imagining why a 24" with 1920x1200 res. would display grainy pictures. This lcd is supposed to be top dog in its class and graininess is no good to me. And what's this about tinting? oh crap don't tell me it's like that HP 24" IPS panel that look great on specs, but less than stellar in actual reviews?

I think it may be something to do with the Anti-glare coating, I've kind of seen the same thing on an HP2475 I have at work if that's what they're referring too.

The Tint thing I've seen mentioned on the Dell site is a green to pink tint from side to side or corner to corner.
This sounds like more of a QC issue or maybe an older software revision (< A04).

Once you get a good one though, they're still supposed to be pretty awesome (don't know about the "graininess" thing).

My biggest concern about getting one is the QC issues - for $500 / $600 you should have a perfect experience.

Yep, some people can't stand it, others are less susceptible - your mileage may vary.

Other than that there are the tinting issues in corners on some displays, which really is a QC issue and can't be helped with software (although there were corrupt monitor inf files for the larger color space).

If you get lucky with the display it's a great monitor - also has a gaming mode with reduced lag (and RGB colors - you don't want the extended color space in games). If you still notice lag depends on the person, it's obviously still higher than a TN panel, for me personally it's good enough.

Uh, I hardly doubt that less eye strain in eclipse, or when reading pdfs has anything to do with a IPS panel. Why should it? I also spends a lot of time in eclipse, emacs and co and can't see any reason why a TN panel should be worse for that (well viewing angles, but in that case.. how're you reading your files?). Great color fidelity doesn't really help if you've got about 5 colors.

^ yeah eye strain is not depedent on IPS or non-IPS. If anything, eye strain depends on font size which is related to font clarity. Also depends on light conditions. I can use a a dinosaur green monochrome with big fonts all day long without eye strain.

BTW, what kind of IPS panel is this U2410? S-IPS or E-IPS?
I have 2 Dell S-IPS 20" LCD and they both have a purple tint to them

Either of you game on it?

I game on it all the time. Although I don't use the gaming mode as the brightness changes depending on 'light'/'dark' areas which gets annoying. I'm sure there is some ghosting but I don't really notice it and it looks very good in game.

As for the 'grainyness' that is most noticeable when on white backgrounds in which it sort of looks like your seeing all the individual pixels. I can't really explain it, but the only part of the monitor that somewhat bothers me.

bought mine last april for around 450$ with some discount and rebates, tax kicked it up a bit with shipping.

I bought it for gaming to replace my fw-900. It really is quite a remarkable piece of equipment. I'd say that it blows any build quality out of the water based on anything i've ever personally come into contact with as far as lcd. The 1920x was a big selling point as it's what i had used for years on my sony crt 24".

For gaming there is a minute amount of lag but not enough to effect your score or kills. 90% of the time it is completely unnoticeable as long as you have it on game setting. I notice it when i'm playing games like oblivion in 3840x1200 with my sony side by side. You can clearly see the delay on LCD tech.

As far as image and ESPECIALLY THE COLOR representation i am still blown away at times. Every once and awhile i set it to warm and take a step back from a game or benchmark and just cannot believe how the textures and image comes to life. Simply remarkable.

I'm not an apple nut but i did look at their cinema displays prior to this purchase. The glare on them is atrocious, and unless you want to be staring at your reflection and shifting your perspective to hide the glare i don't recommend. They are a selling point more then a staying point.

Only downside i'd say is the lack of affordable 1920x1200 monitors to add to the setup for 3 screen gaming and productivity. I'm kinda skeptical spending another 1200$ to add 2 more of these when i could get a dell u3011 or a 46" LED tv that would easily be a better viewing experience then 3 24" sideways, anyways my .02

enjoy.

I understand what you guys mean about 'graininess' but it doesn't bother me and I'm extremely picky about screens. It's noticeable when you get the screen wet (to clean it) - it's like the cells LCD are slightly more isolated from one another than a typical screen so there's less bleed-through to make it look like a continuous sheet of colour.

I game on it all the time. Although I don't use the gaming mode as the brightness changes depending on 'light'/'dark' areas which gets annoying. I'm sure there is some ghosting but I don't really notice it and it looks very good in game.

You can turn the dynamic contrast ratio off in the menus and still retain the benefits of the gaming mode (reduced input lag).

I game on mine all the time, there is quite a noticeable difference in reaction time for mouse movements when playing stuff like Team Fortress 2 once it's in gaming mode.

(Yes old thread resurrection but I figured it was worth contributing.)
