So I was running 16 seti processes on this T5500 and one day I found it dead.
After a few minutes I found the secondary cpu was at fault.
Plug the module in, dead box. Unplug the module, up & running with 8 processes.
Now I'm thinking the thing just doesn't have what it takes to do DC 24/7/365.

Shame, it was really a great producer.
Weak a$$ Dell.

i have a couple SC1430 and they've been great. Love that they came with an 850W PSU.

Well maybe I just got a dud.
Still 100% under warranty so maybe after it's all fixed we will try again.

What temps were the CPUs running at?

Btw 16 processes!! that must of been 1 awesome cruncher!:D
Is it 2.66 GHz?

Just 2.26 ghz :( (x16) :)

36 GB memory... :)

Thinking of maybe running a different project on it, suggestions for something less likely to kill the machine??

So what temps were they running at then?

Maybe 'just' 2.26 GHz but it's still a helluva lot of crunching power :), what output were you getting?

A: Unknown

Of course not overclocked in any way, just running with all cooling as installed by Dell.

It was a very packed box though, several hard drives and well I'm sure you've seen a Dell box before. HUGE PSU in this one.

Errr, I never asked if it was o/ced :p, x2 was same question twice ;). Never mind anyway. I see I typo'ed, doh!

Sounds like a recipe for trouble if it's really packed, are you still running it with 1 CPU? If so what temp is that running at?
Oh & if it helps DPAD runs cooler than the optimised SETI apps, although you'd need to install 2 clients as it doesn't appear to scale very well beyond 8 threads.

Sounds like the Xeon E5520. Great chip :) (see my sig).
36GB of RAM... I'm a little jealous. I could only afford 12 2GB sticks.
I still haven't run DC on it. I'll run F@H on it eventually.

It sucks that it kicked the bucket. Good thing for warranties.

Maybe one of the rails died on the PSU? Does the 2nd CPU riser card have it's own power connector?

I've swapped in a spare second CPU and it works great so I believe the card is bad. Dell sent me a replacement cpu but it will not work in the old card.

Just doing work on the box now - no DC. :(
