DELL Student Discount

dell university calls get routed to people who speak english.

dell home's calls get routed to people who do not speak english.

Many times our Dell employee discount is actually more expensive too b/c you don't get the normal discounts that are going on during that week.

Yep. Our company got in on the offer, and when I checked it out, it was pure BS. You get 4% off for the 10% markup (customer service and warranty)

again, in my experience, every time i've called for a university/student discount tech support, i've gotten someone on the phone fast who can speak english. why is this? because student discounts/university sales is through dell large enterprise and uses dell large enterprise techs.

compare to dell home where you're on hold for an hour and talk to someone in bangalore who probably hasn't actually seen the computer except in an hour of training with it and doesn't know jack about computers (like the guy that told me my radeon 9000 in my 600m wasn't on the agp bus, that my computer had no agp bus, and therefore required no agp driver.)

that is definitely worth paying an extra $14 for.

If the computer is fine you shouldn't need tech support. I think the only DELL deserved to buy is their $260 poweredge back in the days.

when was the last time you saw a prebuilt computer that never had a problem within 3 years?

for a desktop, no big deal. notebooks? huge deal.

An extra $14? Most of the time you can save hundreds by buying through Home with a coupon.

The only time I've ever seen Dell's EPP have a discount worthwhile was they had a 35% off any laptops, and if you bought an extended support thing (which wasn't expensive at all) you'd get an extra 12% off. I priced out an XPS Gen 2 that was loaded for about $2100 (with I think a 4 year warranty). Other than that, the EPP has horrible deals. Since then they've made it so the XPS line doesn't even get a good discount at all through EPP (like 10% max).

Personally, I've never had a problem with Dell's support even through Home, so it just isn't worth it for me.
