I was one of the first to get burnt when Dell switched it up and started shipping inferior PVA panels in the 2007fp, instead of the quite nice S-IPS panel it originally shipped with. Beginning what is known as the Dell Panel lottery.

For a long time Dell did not give this treatment to 2007wfp, all were S-IPS panel for a long period of time. But now Dell has started the panel lottery on the wide screens as well.

Since there is no guarantee of getting the original panel that made this a good monitor, you are better off just buying something cheaper locally, where you can see what you are getting.

The last 2007FP (not WFP) I had access to had an S-IPS panel: V1B11 LPL UXGA LM201U05

It would be odd for it to be totally random but who knows. At least they're using S-PVAs and not TNs so that the image quality isn't severely reduced.

PVA is not high quality if you are annoyed by the tone shift on PVA. Personally I can't stand them. This guy had two 2007wfp, one PVA, one IPS. If you can't tell the difference you have nothing to worry about:

I haven't seen reports of them in North America yet. This is exactly what happend right while I was waiting for my 2007fp to come in and I ended up with PVA. Perhaps random isn't the right word, but I still see people receiving the the odd 2007fp with S-IPS today while most seem to be PVA. Once they are both in the system you have no way of knowing which you will get.
