Dell Specs

I'm looking for a cheap solution for my parents for a PC and just want something reliable with a warranty and no assembly/hassle. I saw dell has free shipping (In Canada) and mem/HD upgrades for free right now and was looking to take advantage.

--> I was wondering whether the mobo Dell uses on their Dimension 2400 PC with the P4 2.66 ghz w 533 bus has an AGP slot for expansion. I kno right now it uses integrated graphics.

--> Also what are dell's cases like? are they reliable/quiet with good cooling?
--> What PSU do they use?

--> Also what are the specs on their included monitor (Dell E773)?

i dont see how u can consider a case reliable...but dell cases are very quiet, but also have horrible cooling. they run HOT! they use their own dell-made psu, which will not work with any other mobo. its reliable enuff for a dell made mobo. i 0n0 about their monitor, but its good enuff for anything.

It depends. A Dimension 4600 uses a standard ATX power supply. It is a very well built 250w unit. I have since replaced it with a True Power 430.

As far as the available AGP slot, some have it, some don't. When configuring it, if it allows you to add an AGP card, it does 🙂

The cases do run hot, and it would be very hard to add a fan/heatsink to the CPU (Dell uses a non-standard size heatsink). They seem to get thermal issues all the time. I ordered a 92mm Tornado fan (which cools the CPU via the plastic tunnel) to replace the Dell fan (which is quiet, but does not move much air).

I have opened the case after gaming, and have been amazed of hot it gets in there due to the limited air flow (a 5900fx card puts off a lot of heat that does not get out right away because of the airflow)

As a general use PC, it is fine. Add a hot graphics card, and watch out.

Typically Dells are nearly silent, built with good top-shelf parts, have very decent cases, and run pretty hot (tradeoff for the quietness).

They're generally reliable as you can get for mass-produced, cookie-cutter computers. I like them better than any of the other screwball manufacturers.
