Dell Small Business or Home?

Need to order a laptop? What is the difference between ordering from Dell Small Business or Dell home?

This laptop is for business mainly.

Small Business will tend to have parts designed for workstations, but really you need to look at what you are using it for. If it's simply word processing, excel, and the occassional powerpoint, then a cheap home computer will work fine.

Dell SB usually has better deals and offers Latitude laptops but charges sales tax in all states.

Dell Home deals are still good, not as good as SB, no Latitude available and tax in most but not all states.

Dell Home has a great deal on the XPS M140 for $799 with:
Free DJ Ditty MP3 Player included! Another price drop - Dell Home has the loaded Dell XPS M140 Laptop for only $799. No rebates needed. Includes 1.73GHz Pentium-M CPU, 512MB RAM, 60GB hard drive, Windows XP Media Center Edition, CD-RW/DVD Drive, WiFi wireless networking and more. Free shipping is also included, although there is a small handling charge.

Always check them both to see which side has the best deal. Otherwise it doesn't make any difference. Still have to buy an extra warranty and such.

I disagree. Dell home has the coupons like 650 off 1999 and 500 off 1599 for Inspirons and also has 2% stackable off for DPA as well as the 35 off 300 stackable E&A coupon....not to mention cash back through several sites.....and free or almost free shipping.

Dell SB seldom has free shipping and seldom has coupons for more than 5% off. As Rossman said, it's good if you really want one of the few things they offer that Dell home doesn't or if you have a small business rep who you can angle for discount with. Otherwise, buy from home.

There might be a different in taxes depending on where you live. When I ordered a monitor from Dell, Home didn't charge tax but Small Business did - it was a huge difference in prices after tax.

Yep I always compare both side by side and go with whichever has it cheaper.

Sometimes it's Home, Small Business or EPP.

I believe it's only offered through certain employers? Although I am eligible for EPP, I have never placed an EPP order.
