Man does dell shipping suck! I was supposed to get free shipping...I did with a big catch. When a carrier say 3-5 day shipping they are supposed to mean you get you package in 3-5 days right? Well dell seems to think that it should be have the carrier pick it up in 3-5 days! It said it should ships "within 24 hours"...what a bunch of bs. My stuff is not going to be here for 7-10 days! Man so much for good customer service eh?

Have you EVER ordered anything online? Shipping time = Time it arrives at your house - time carrier picks it up. They do have to actually build and test your system, you know.

The shipping company has nothing to do with the problem. The problem lies between your chair and keyboard. But that is ok, we are here to fix it. Assuming you ordered a Dimension desktop, start here. That page is updated nearly daily giving the lead times for each component. As it stands now, that page says Dimenions are on a 1 day delay. So start with 1. Then add on the delay for your components. For example if you ordered it witha 2001FPM, add 8 days. So you'd be at 1+8 = 9. Note: only add the longest delay, not all of the delays. Then once that time is passed, does the shipper recieve the computer. Add on the 3-5 days shipping. So you are left with 12 - 14 days. Of course these are business days (no weekends or holidays). So really that is about 3 weeks.

Dell plasters their pages with this information. The shipping time is AFTER it is custom built for you. You have to add in the time it takes them to custom build. This information is clearly labeled if you look for it.

Other companies do this too, not just Dell.

DELL CAN KISS MY ARS!!!

Dell Laptops arent bad but dont mess with DELL PC's. My best friend's dad works for UPS and he delvers a ton of Dell machines, he said that the majority of machines from dell he delivers get returned because either the PSU dies or the rig itself dies. The cheapest parts on the market are used by Dell, not to mention that they mostly only carry Intel rigs. Dell monitors are ok, my father has a Dell LCD but it has a ton of ghosting, but he is very hard headed and wont listen to me. I told him to either let me build him a rig or to go with him when he bought one. I come home from class one day and he has a Dell Celeron 1.8 GHz rig with 128 MB of RAM, onboard video and onboard sound but at least it came with the works (Printer, CRT Monitor, Mouse/Keyboard) I asked him how much he payed for it, $600 he sezz I was like OMG ROTFL JACKA$$.

I just assumed. Nonetheless, the link I gave also lists delays for common monitor purchases. Use that as well. Then add 1 day for packaging and handling and add 3-5 days for the shipping. My point remains the same.

I have a Dell Trinitron monitor, its very old but it supports up to 1600X1200 res. I have been thinking about replacing it but if I get a new one, It will only go up to 1280X1024 and I dont want to spend the bux on LCD.

Thanks for sharing.

Really? He's counted? How many is he up to now...total packages delivered and total returned? I never tell the delivery guy what I'm returning a package for. I must be doing something wrong. Bwhahaha.

Dell's shipping has always been slow. Nothing new there. Took them 3 months to ship me a hard drive one time!

Oh look, another smart elic person who wants to flame and start trouble. And FYI he has been working with UPS for over 25 years, he knows the people on his route pretty well and has talked much with Dell owners. If I offended you because you somehow like Dell then I am truly sorry but I am quoting him so dont F!@#$%^ verbally attack me.

I think Dell's shipping and service are exceptional considering the amount of business they do.

I agree. My order took about 2 days to process and 4 days to arrive by shipper. I bet you have it sooner than you think. BTW, what monitor did you order Reck?

Heh, Dell is actually just as bad (in my experience) with hardware that they *don't* build or have to test. Prime example: Switches. It took them three business days just to 'process' my order for one 24 port switch, then of course the delay of shipping. Does it really take three days for an in-stock item to be taken from a shelf, have a shipping label attached to it, and handed off to a UPS truck?

I finally settled on the viewsonic G90fb since it was such a good price. Not as good as the nec 930sb that I had planned on getting but it should be good enough. :)

Yea, that's a good price. I saw that Newegg has free shipping on that exact monitor (about the only monitor w/free shipping) and It's probably due to the sale that Dell is running.
Should have ordered from Newegg. Their shipping speed always amazes me.

This is nonsense. I used to build my own PCs. Not anymore. Dell sells them to me for less than I can build them for, and they use good quality parts. The SC400 PCs I've purchased from them are probably the most quiet PCs I've ever had. The case build is excellent. The motherboard (Intel chipset) is excellent. The cooling system (partly responsible for low noise) is excellent. The power supply is fine. And they use Intel processors (thankfully).

The last batch of five that I got from them, I paid $124/each after a $100 rebate. Those were bare-bones 400SCs with 2.8Ghz P4 processors, 128mb of memory and a 40GB hard drive. But I don't need an OS pre-loaded, and I couldn't come close to building the same thing for that money. Early this year, I paid about $300 for a few 400SCs with 3.2Ghz P4 processors and otherwise equivalent specs. This was when the processors alone were selling for about $500 on pricewatch.

No, I don't have a problem with Dell.

a) dell's inventory isn't updated in real time
b) compound this problem with the huge orders for that item that go in whenever theres a special (probably when you got yours)
c) if they're saying it will ship (and not should ship) by the 12th, they're in violation of the law.
