My wife's 8200 had a defective motherboard.

So I sent it in for service. Came back and I plugged it in, and it wouldnt charge. I thought it might be the AC adaptor and ordered another. My wife tossed the old one. Well, the new one didnt work either. They put in ANOTHER bad motherboard. So I call Dell (again) to speak to India, and get someone I can't friggin understand, and they insist they send everything. Hard drive, charger everything. I was reluctant to do this, but oh well. I included a note explaining what I had shipped, and that I wanted it all back. Guess what. They kept the adapter. So I don't know if the problem is fixed, since I can't plug it in.

So I call Dell and tell them to send another at their expense. I get "Well if the service center says they got it, we will send another"

I said "Listen closely. Tell them they got it, because if they didn't I am going to spend all night going up to Michael Dell and bitch to him if you offer me 10 laptops for free."

Well, it should be here Monday, and then we will see if they fixed the problem. God help them if they did not.

ACK!

I feel you pain. I was in the same situation last week with a damaged LCD. The tech asked my to try this and that for an hour. I finally told the tech "The monitor is dead". I am typing on my replacement LCD right now.

Yeah, their service is getting spotty. Fortunately all their corporate and government support is done by people who still speak English as their first language.

Now we call up gateway less then a mile away and they courier over whatever OA part we need, no proprietary $h!t like Hell

I'm in the process of moving all my new purchases away from Dell. I just have not been happy with the hardware or support lately. :(

I've dumped A LOT of money into them in the past 4 years but recently their stuff has just gone to crap. The beancounters are bitching about the IBM laptops and Compaq servers costing more...but they aren't the ones that have to sit on hold and try and suffer through Dells crappy support.

Yah I switched us over to Gateway PC's since they are bsically open archetecture (Intel ATX mobo's, Maxtor HD's) and then I run the Compaq Proliant Servers.

Been MUCH better as far as support and reliability.

My g/f bought a laptop from them a year ago. The first time she turned it on, we heard it boot, then it just died. It turns out that the mobo and CPU burnt even before it fully booted for the first time. I brought it to a freind before sending it back and he said that the laptop had no fan in it. I dont know if he was joking with me, but how teh hell do you send out a laptop with no heatsink or fan?

I've had pretty good luck with Dell service except for the fact that I've needed 3 parts replaced on my new laptop. I told them I heard bad fan noises, and they sent me a system fan. I told them it didn't help, and they sent a tech with (

another system fan). The tech told them that it must be the video fan, and a few days later he was back and replaced the video card fan. That worked. I also told them my DVD+RW drive was very loud, and they sent me a replacement one a few days later. The keyboard's a little weird now and I just emailed them about it. It takes a little while to convince them what the problem is and not to make you go through pointless troubleshooting stuff, but they're not reluctant to send replacement parts.
