Dell Server Upgrade

I have a poweredge 500SC server w/ a celery (100MHZ FSB). I went to upgrade the RAM w/ 100 mhz ECC SDRAM and low and behold it won't work. 🙁 I think it needs 133 but why??? Anyway to force it to take 100?

Well, Crucial is coming up with this: link to PowerEdge 500SC modules and yep, thems are R-ECC PC133 modules. Usually Crucial will show both PC100 and PC133 if the motherboard will work with either type, so I'd take that as a sign that it does want R-ECC PC133 only. Hope that helps 🙂

Flash the bios. Having worked at dell, alot of memory compatibility problems were solved with a bios flash.

Hehe, OT but you'll like this one... I got a call from my little sister. Her roommate was having problems with her computer. They'd added 512MB of Crucial PC133 to it, and now it just gave off sad beeps instead of running. Well, it was a Dimension 8100. :Q YES, they had reamed a 512MB PC133 module into a RIMM slot! 😀 Amazingly, the poor abused computer still worked after I put the CRIMMs back in.

*shakes head... kids these days, I tell ya... 😛*
