Got a call from a "dell" technician telling me that the 4 poweredge 1650 servers I bought in 2002 have a faulty mobo. When I asked if I can email my service tags to him, he gave me an @dellretrofit.com email addy....can anyone confirm this is a valid domain run by dell?

If so, that's pretty cool that Dell is pro-actively calling customers to offer free replacements :D

thx,

Why is GAVE in all caps? Is it impossible that a CSR would give out his email address?

Quick WHOIS search shows that it's registered to Sydcor Enterprises, apparently an outsourcing company based in Austin (same place as Dell IIRC). Dunno if that means it's legit or not, though.

They've called us before in the past to tell us about faulty this and that. Typically though they've left phone numbers to return calls to, not email addresses. He should have ALL your service tags on record. I don't know why you would need to email them to him. That's what their service tag database is for, keeping track of who own's what in case something like a faulty motherboard comes up and they need to contact customers.

okay, maybe I read that wrong.. for some reason I thought he gave FreshPrince an address @dellretrofit.com (like one FP could use). I guess I thought this because the CSR was trying to prove to him that he had control of dellretrofit.com .... I hate mondays.. I mean tuesdays.

They called me a few times about an scsi raid card I had. Something about hthe drives falling off line and they'd have somebody come update it. I don't have the card anymore so never called them back but thought it was nice of them to call:D

actually...their DB sux, cuz he said we only have 4 PE1650's but in fact we have 10 :)

Anyways, called main dell number and verified that this is in fact a valid domain name. Whew! emailed the 10 service tag numbers to him, hopefully it's just a few and not ALL! lol :D
