A co-worker told me that most of Dell refurbs are new machines that for one reason or another were returned to Dell,ie, cancelled order.

Those of you who have Dell refurbs what's your take?

TIA,

JHawk I don't personally own a Dell but I do know how refurbs work. They are either returned by the customer because it didn't work or any number of other reasons not related to the functioning of the unit. Since they now cannot be sold as new they are labeled refurbished even if they didn't have to have anything repaired. That is why you will see things such as refurbed CPUs or memory which weren't defective then 'fixed' but the customer sent them back for whatever reason and the companies want to resell them.

On a side note I have bought a refurbed Dell laptop for work and it was in great condition with all of the software, manuals and such. In fact I have bought countless refurbed computer merchandise over the years from other sources and not one single time have I had a problem with them.

i have a refurb dell and its worked great for me, the nice thing aboutthe refurbs is they usually put extra stuff in there to draw you in as well as lowering the price

for instance its not unusual to find 2x the hardrive and 4x the memory for the same price

check them out, i would buy one again, in fact i probably will especially since they come with a full warrenty just like the new systems

if warranty is same and intact as compared to the new models.. go for it. I'm sure you're limited to your choices since you can't really customize refurbished one's all that much, but it would be a great deal on its own.
