Dell refurbished 2005FPW for 558.00. Good deal or not?

I'm not sure if this is a good deal or not. I just missed the last sale on these. Don't know when there will be another. Would you guys go for a refurbished? I really want one of these!!!

My co-worker paid 350 for a brand new one not too long ago. Yes.. the 2005 20.1 inch widescreen one. Just hold out for the right deals if you can.

I just got off the phone with a Dell Business rep and he told me those deals are a thing of the past. He said demand far exceeded supply, and they have been told there is no longer any discounts available.

Take it for what its worth.

he said that because he wanted you to buy one now rather than waiting for a deal

Demand far exceeding supply. lol. Sure. He meant the opposite. Right now there are excess supply on LCD and LCD TV and more on the way. We had just worked through excess buildup from late last year and new oversupply exist now with the LCD TV not meeting industry sales expectation. Far more units got shipped than sold. Expect big price cuts on LCD stuff in the coming months.

Maybe, maybe not, but where they would previously haggle a bit over prices, he stood rock solid at $559. And it coincided with the outlet price on the monitors rising from $498 to $559.

And I was quoted a 1 week lead time, rather than a few days.

Try Ebay. Should be cheaper.

Paying over $400 for this monitor is crazy IMO. Don't get me wrong. It's flat out great LCD but when others bought it from Dell for less than $350 in the past, it's hard to get excited about >$400 price.

Yeah, but will the warranty transfer on one of those e-bay specials? I'm expecting some hot holiday deals soon, hopefully something on par with the Delf promo from last year.

I think it has been discussed before that the warranty does not transfer. Maybe it does if an item is purchased with the "intent to resell" button is selected at the time of purchase... who knows.

The Dell Business Rep lied. There will be more deals for this monitor and it should easily for $500 and maybe lower. Heck, just did a search on Techbargains and came up with this (can't show coupon code for obvious reasons):

Dell 2005FPW (20?) Digital LCD Flat Panel 1680x1050, 600:1 contrast ratio, 12ms response, DVI,
originally $699, now for $499.20, free shipping after $65 off $500 code and 20% off Coupon

I would be very surprised to not see a similarly priced deal in about 4-6 weeks from Dell. Also, just because the business rep said that Dell Business are not going to have a sale any time soon that doesn't mean Dell Home won't have a sale soon. They are essentially seperate divisions of the same company and work for the most part independently.

Good things come to those who wait and this monitor will hit the low 400's by mid october. They have sales on these every 2-3 months, and the last deal I remeber was on August for 380ish. Search for it on this forum you will see the pattern.
