Has this happened to anyone else. I ordered the 120GB hard drive back on April, 18th. Dell charged my credit card that day. Then the first of this week Dell credited my account back for the same amount. So I called Dell to make sure my hard drive had not been canceled and they said it was still on the way. I have a tracking number and I should have the Hard Drive Monday. This is very weird.

The title is inaccurate. It should be IN SHIPPING. A paid HD being in the conveyor belt systems and a paid HD in YOUR hands are 2 different things...

No, if Dell want the hard drive back then Dell will have to come and pry it out of my cold dead hands.

I'm keeping the drive no matter what, but it would be nice if it's free.:D

The exact same thing happened when I ordered my laptop from Dell. The day I ordered it, they deducted the money from my debit account. A couple days later, it was credited back. Then when my laptop shipped, they deducted the money again. Trust me, you will be charged.

They shipped the drive May, 1st. And the money is still in my account. It was on backorder from the 18th of April.

Kinda the same thing with me but I bought a laptop on 6/27/20 and was supposed to be delivered on the 30th. Took the money out of my account but then said it was being sent back to the shipper in TN and neither dell nor Fedex knew anything and now I got my money back from Dell and I have no email or texts telling me why my order was canceled

Wow... this one is an oldie. I don't think that you can even get a new hard drive that small anymore. :)

For those new to the world of credit-cards, the first "charge" is referred to as an "approval" and drops off your account by design.

Apparently Dell is among the merchants that process the actual payment a bit more slowly then most.

The one advantage to this delay is that it avoids MOST of the indignant phonecalls insisting "I was charged twice" ... no, you were not.

I was just thinking the same haha. Especially in early 2000 that would have been huge. Our first computer around year 2000 had a 10Gb HDD, I later on added a 40GB that I had saved up for. I do recall 120GB HDDs becoming available too and it was crazy that they broke the 100GB barrier.

And now they're at like what, 16TB I think? Crazy how storage has progressed. You can fit more than 120GB on a micro SD card now days. (I think they go up to 1TB now?)

I just bought a collection of 12 and 14TB drives to hold all my vids. I got one for tv and one for movies and one for porn.

My standard business NAS build is a dozen 16TB drives with a rackmount Synology. 160TB available with SHR-2. Modern technology & pricing is bananas. What's even crazier is that it's all plug & play lol.

what's sad is that some low-end PCs in 2020 still ship with a hard drive.

That might be the layman's term, I think the industry term is "authorization." Actually:

The first computer I bought had a 4.3 gig hard drive. I'd never fill that! Crazy how times have changed. Pretty sure in the not so distant future terabyte drives will seem small too.

Just wish I could afford it! lol

Literally takes longer to unbox the NAS & drives than it does to set it up. All those years tinkering with stuff like FreeNAS & ZFS were for naught :p
