1) Anyone have experience with the Dell gaming systems? How are they?

2) are the 8300 and XPS really that different? It seems I can upgrade the 8300 to an XPS and save a few hundred bucks. Im planning on buying it and upgrading to the x800 myself.

3) they say nothing about the type of motherboard and power supply used.... anyone have any knowledge of it?

4)lastly, when is Dell going to have X800 as part of their system? any guesses?

If your going for pre-built, there are way better options out there. If you are in canada, ncix is a good option and newegg does it too i think. You can get better computers for cheaper. Dell rips you off.

With pre-built you are just going to have to deal with the price being jacked up. However, take a look in the "Hot Deals" forum in Anandtech. They have 10% and 20% off e-coupons for Dell systems. If you can't find it there, just post a message and someone will be sure to help you. As for your question with the 8300 vs. XPD (or whatever the abreviation is) the 8300 is the clear winner. Way cheaper, just make sure you upgrade to the 9800pro 128mb. If you would like, tomorrow when i got some time, i could custom build a dell pc on the web for you and send you a link.

I am sure there are other places you could go as well. being in the US you acctully have way more option than us canadians. Or, even check out a local computer retailer and see if they build custom systems and ask how much it is to put everything together. Again, i could tell you what i think would be a good system and then you could ask other people on the forum about it too.

up till this past year i had been a loyal dell user for well over 10 years,my first dell was a 486 and last was a 2ghz laptop.the most complex thing i'd done with a computer up to that point was install a new harddrive, but this year i wanted to finally upgrade my desktop from a p3 733 to something decent.

for a number of reasons, including cost, wanting to try amd and just not liking the dell systems i was seeing on there site i decided to build my own.infact i was able to build two systems for just abit more then the prebuilt dell i was looking at,a high end 8300.

i'll admit that in doing it myself i ran into a few glitches along the way that made me just want to shoot myself,or the pc,but not only was the value of the system i made far better then the dell but it also came with a sense of accomplishment.

the best thing to do is research,i mean up on till a few months ago i had no idea cpu's needed this weird glue stuff on them,or that you really can overclock without your pc turning into a ball of fire and burning down your house.

it's really something to look into,i myself am very glad i didn't go ahead and get a new dell.

oh,and also it takes dell about a month to ship out your pc,i ordered all my parts from newegg.com and they got here a few days later,it's hard to beat that.though i had to wait alittle longer, because i forgot to order the artic silver, and the os,i was so use to windows just coming with the system it didn't even pop into my head i had to buy a copy.

If your looking for pre-built then....

Dell 8300

Sys Store Builder

Tiger Direct

Best Deal in my opinion:
Plus, thats canadian dollars! You will get it for so much less!
Also, that is a great overclocking computer with the mobile barton.
If your not into overclocking it is pretty simple to show you how.
It does not come with an operating system ... But i am sure you have a copy of win XP lieing around, or mabye one of your friends.

NCIX

I would love any input people have for these systems. Most websites don't give you much to work with tho. So try to keep them nice. Also, any suggestions would be great as well.
