Dell question?

Why does dell charge Tax on online purchases when they have no Dell Locations in my State?

It seems like if you get free shipping they charge tax, if you don't get free shipping you don't get taxed.

First of all, goddamnit, call Dell and fvcking ask.

Second of all, if you buy something in a state that requires tax on purchases, internet sales are not exempt.

mmmm Nik... again....

I have bought items before from dell with no tax. It seems always the good juice deals have tax.
I live in NY State

Sales in the United States are required by law to have taxes. Thus, the adoption is getting there. Better start counting your tips at work, you'll seriously be needing them...

Legally, you must pay tax on all online purchases whether or not the company has presence in your state IF your state has a sales tax. (I can't believe I just defended Nik). For their small business division, Dell realizes that most small companies don't want to break the law and thus it is much more convenient for Dell to collect the tax. For their home division, Dell realizes that most customers want to break the law, and since Dell legally isn't responsible, Dell lets the home users break the law.

As a coincidence, the free shipping is usually on the small business division, so you just happen to see it usually occuring with the tax.

Hmm, Dell must have changed recently. I just checked mutiple home computers and they all had tax. Forget my post above. But you legally owed the tax anyways, so thank Dell for making it less paperwork for you.
