My neighbor recently purchased a Dell with a Dell A960 printer. This printer crosses to the Lexmark X6170 model. Ink cartridges for this printer are twice as much at Dell compared to the prices at Best Buy and Office Max for the Lexmark equivalent. The people at both BB and OM say the cartridges are different between the two brands. Any thoughts??? I am thinking they probably would interchange ok, they look very similar from the online photos. TIA

They're different and everyone is pissed at Dell and their printers as far as I can tell.

Better get used to ordering ink from Dell or learn how to refill.

I have heard that you can snap the cap off of the Dell cartridge and snap it onto the Lexmark cartridge to make it work.

Take it back or dumster it after the carts run out. Buy a Canon that takes BCI-3 and 6 carts.

there are these little notches on the tops of the carts that make them different from the lexmark ones,... but watch your office depot, a deal is in the works to possibly carry dell inkjet carts the sometime during Q1 of 2005

You can 'mod' the dell printer to accept a compatible Lexmark cartridge.... Something we at Office Max dont recomend.

RE:"Why, so I'd have to throw that out too. "

No, so you can buy generic carts for the Canon for 2-3 dollars piece or refill your own for pennies.

Or you can suffer with the Lexmark.

Good luck.
