I do a lot of video editing and am looking for more suitable hardware than what I have now. I'm comparing two Dell machines and can't explain the enormous price difference. Maybe somebody here has some insights
Machine 1:
Dimension 8400,
Processor: P4 550, 3.4ghz
2GB DDR2 (4x512)
HD: 2X74GB SATA, 10,000 rpm, Raid 0
DVD+RW dual layer 16x
GeForce 6800 GTO 256 MB
Monitor: 2x 17" Dell 1703FP HAS
Machine 2:
Precision 670
Processor: 2xXeon 3.2ghz
RAM - same as above
HD - same as above
DVD - same as above
ATI FireGL V3100 (128MB)
Monitor: same as above
I live in Switzerland so I'm getting prices quoted in Swiss Francs, but it comes out to about $3070 for the Dimension and $7035 for the Precision. I can't figure out where the huge difference is coming from. Xeon's are more expensive but not that much.
