Dell preinstalled internet access - how to keep when reinstalling?

I'm setting up a new Dell for some friends... it came w/ 6 free months of Earthlink (or AOL). I want to wipe the drive and reinstall windows clean to get rid of all the crap (Real, antivirus trial, etc). How do I keep the free internet access for them?

There are folders in Program Files for each service - if I just keep the folder and put it back, would that work? How does AOL/Earthlink determine that you do have the free service? Do you have to put in your system ID during the account setup or something?

I don't know... they're not here (the computer is going from me to some relatives to them, so I won't ever be with them and the computer to set things up) so I'd prefer to leave it so they can set up their account when they get it.

could you just run the service once, sign up... get your username/pass... and just use that on a reinstall?

Agreed.

Install with Dell bloatware, activate your account, SAVE all the user details, codes, etc. then re-format hard drive and a clean OS install.
