Dell Preferred Account "DPA"

I have really been debating applying for the Dell Preferred Account. However, I still plan on purchasing all my items via my American Express in full. I do not plan on using the DPA for credit reasons and will have everything paid off. Only for the $ off amount Dell gives DPA members.

My question, is that it seems like DPA accounts get 10% off on most if not all purchases. I purchase quite a bit from Dell for my business and other ventures and I believe 10% off will help out quite a bit. However, rumor has it that applying for DPA lowers your credit rating. They do say they will disclose your information and will use your information for third party marketing techniques. They do have to have your social security number for this, but 10% off isnt that great of a deal if they screw with your credit. What are your points of views? Good/bad, list of both?

I believe the rumor is based on the whole silly "applying for credit will lower your score/average time of credit" theory-mongers. If you have good credit I would say don't worry.

Also, if you can get 10% off with it, then just use the DPA and pay it off with the Amex (which is then paid off with paycheck).

Jolly good fun juggling them bills, eh?
