And it's definitely worth an extra $19 to increase from 512MB -> 2GB DDR2. This looks like a pretty nice setup, too bad I have to pay shipping & tax...

EDIT: Ouch. Shipping is $69 and tax adds nearly $20 so with the memory upgrade I'd be looking at >$300. Suddenly not such a great deal.

Ground shipping is $20.

Does anyone know if this will run an E4600, or an E8200?

Does the 8x PCI Slot have a 16x physical connector? IE: Can I put a 16x card into this slot and only run on the 8 lanes, if I know the card supports it.

A little Ot, but what happened to the poweredgeforums site? A member here (forgot his name edit: Oliver perhaps) was running it, and I think rossman helped him with it. It was very popular back in the SC420 pcie slot modding days.
Did Dell give them a seice and desist?

Yes. People are still active on that forum but not like the 400SC days. I think RossMAN still owns the site after Oliver transferred it to him but others run it.

OT: Anyone know what the scoop is on RossMAN's disappearance from here? I heard some chatter but don't know what happened. You can PM me if you know to keep it out of this HD discussion.

Anyone have any experience running this with VMWARE ESXI? Would it worth it to spend $100 to get the XEON?

Unless you upgraded the specs quite a bit, you wouldn't want to run VMs on it. It only comes with 512Mb of ram for instance...

Well, the Xeon upgrade gets you Intel Virtualization Technology, which the e2180 doesn't have...but it's a 50% bump in price ($100), not sure you'll get 50% better performance. Also I think max ram on that is 4gigs.

Or change your shipping selection to 3-5 days for $19.99? At least my co-worker and I was able to :)

The PCI-e slot only runs a x1, do some google searches. People have already cut out the slot for it to accept a larger vid card however the slot won't actually run at x16.

ESX wont install on a SATA drive as far as I know, other than that add more ram and I would think you could.
