Is this deal ok or what??? Are there any other Dell promotions available that would drop this price a little more? I might jump on this if I could get in for about $250. Thanks.

Link to deal here : 400SC

If I could get a P4 2.4 desktop for <= $300, I'd be there. That server box... maybe more like $225. Those are just my price points--at least what I feel I could justify to my wife.

That "server box" is actually pretty nice. It has a pretty spacious case compared to the cheaper 2400/4600 systems (400SC: 4 x 3.5" bays, 2 x 5.25" bays, plus 1 extra slot) and it uses the i875 chipset. The P4 2.26GHz deal yesterday was a very good bargain, but I think the P4 2.8GHz w/HT deal for $388 AR (or $377 after ebates, too) last week was a better deal. If you can put together a i875 motherboard, decent case, floppy, CD-ROM, video card, PC3200 ECC memory, 40GB Seagate Baracuda hard drive, CPU, keyboard and mouse for $225 let me know where you shop. :p I might need to pick up their entire inventory at that price.

You can get a P4 2.4GHz at Dell for $300 or so, but this is a polite place where coupon/links aren't welcome. You can actually find those deals a lot more often than the price glitches that pop up as deals here.

How do you guys get those prices? I checked a few times and the best deals were:
* 2.4HT $598-$100 rebate, free upgrade to 2.8 (last week)
* 2.4HT $498-$100 rebate, +$100 to upgrade to 2.8 (today)

How do you get 2.8 HT for $388 AR? Any hints to a "less polite" place location?

The current 400SC deal isn't too hot today. You can get a 400SC with:
P4 2.4GHz w/HT (800MHz FSB, same price as P4 2.26GHz)
128MB PC3200 ECC
80GB hard drive (40GB HD is $35 cheaper)
No OS
48x CD-ROM
floppy
keyboard and mouse
1 year warranty

for $533 - $100 MIR = $433 AR, or with a 40GB HD for $398 AR. It's been cheaper a few times recently, but it's still a decent deal.

The cheapest option is a Celeron 2GHz/40GB for $99 less: $299 AR.

The deal gets sweeter if you can "get" a 10% off total order coupon code and/or use ebates. That makes the P4 2.4GHz/80GB system $479.70 - $100 MIR = $379.70 AR - $9.59 ebates = $370.11 AR, or the Celeron 2GHz for $399 - $39.90 (10% off) - $7.18 (ebates) - $100 MIR = $251.92 AR. That's kinda warm for this system, but it has been cheaper before. The first 400SC/40GB/P4 2.4GHz w/HT I bought over a month ago was about $272 AR.

(edit since you asked about the P4 2.8GHz): You can't get it for $388 AR now. That was the deal last week and it's over. But it probably will go on sale again. Today the 400SC with 40GB hard drive and P4 2.8GHz is: $598 - $100 MIR = $498 AR. If you use ebates and have a 10% off code, it's $427 AR.

Bought the 2.8 10 minutes prior to deal ending last night.

After rebate, 10% discount, and tax, my total was $425.

I had to go to ebay to get an additional 10% off coupon. I looked on fatwallet.com but had no luck.

I then searched completed items for +dell +coupon +10% and found several ebayers that had coupons but no takers. Alot of the 10% off without a minimum go through 9 Nov. I paid a person $5 for a coupon that saved me $60. I also went through fatwallet.com to buy and should get another 2.25% back.

When this one arrives, I will now have 2ea. 2.8's, and 1ea. 3.2.

These are absolutely awesome computers. I really can't tell any difference between the 2.8 and 3.2.

The newest 2.8 will be for a combined PVR system and also as the backup hard drive for my home network.

See my post above about going over to ebay and getting a 10% off coupon. You will need to check completed items under the search tag. Then email all the different ebayers. I had 4 people email me back with offers from $2-5 for a coupon. I had to take the first one at $5 because the free upgrade was about to close.

Good Luck

Now it appears the current 10% off SB are not stackable :(

However, the instant rebate is now $125 and you can also upgrade to the 80 GB HD for $35. That works out to $300 w/ MIR and 2.2% FC.
