Dell poweredge 1800

i have two identical poweredge 1800 servers running proprietary pneumatic tube system software. they are identical as far as the hardware and server 3000 standard edition. one is a backup and the other is the primary that runs one of the tube systems where i work.

they have a raid o configuration and my question is, as long as they have the same data as in current software config and tube system config, if there is a major problem can i just shut it down and use the drives from the backup to run in the primary or is that a nono? this would just make the downtime less being able to swap drives.

i have heard that there are numerous issues trying to do that as there are security codes in the software that identify it. these are on the network too. im not asking for a how to answer just verification whether this is possible or not.

With any DR test, the only way to know 100% for sure is to do it on a regular basis. "It should work" and "I've proven it works" are very different statements.
