I repect amdskip and his 20,000 posts and thus his opinion.
Sadly, my own personal experience with Dell Power Supplies is a bit different
Just my own humble opinion is that they are scientifically designed to be just the bare minimum for the exact PC they are being put in. I think they are prone to failure, and are very small, roughly 6" square by my memory, and basically cheap junk. Any new power supply you buy most prob wont fit without severe wire cramping unless you find a real short DVD burner. The only PS I could find to fit a friends Dell was a Tagan 480 which is modular - no cable bunch. But you did not mention the Dell model version.
But perhaps i am being too harsh - lol
The power supply. It?s rated at only (iirc) 305 watts, so I was worried about power draw. But adding another hard drive and the 7950GT didn?t cause any problems. I can?t say if an X1900XT would draw too much power or not, but it?ll take at least some fancy video cards without breaking a sweat.

I was a bit surprised that Dell offers PCPower PSU upgrade, so that Blain link was informative

PC Power and Cooling offer aftermarket PSUs for Dell owners.

I wouldnt run a system today (with a 7950GT for sure) with less than a 600W highly respected name PSU
different strokes for different folks - whatever floats your boat

This is a prime example of why we have folks recommending high wattage psu's on a regular basis. 😛 In most cases it isn't necessary, but then again a little headroom never hurts either. I'd rather see someone purchase a lower wattage high quality psu over an el-cheapo 600w. In addition you can't judge all psu's on the brand name alone.

Thank you for that stupendous burst of insight.
You are a true PC genius, GOD's gift to this forum.
We are so blessed to have you here, your royal highness.
Dull day?
Trolling for someone to argue with?

Dell owns a crapola SMPS building plant in China, I really forgot the brand name, but they no longer use them in thier own comps. Most of the Dells of the last two years come with power supplies built by Lite-On and a few by Delta. Both these OEMs offer good units.
I like both Bozo and John
What test? You posted some opinions that did nothing to address the OP's question, then have the nerve to say:Its up to the OP to sort things out for himself, not to pass the "John Test".
That's exactly the kind of remark any gutless coward would make who get his kicks flaming others on a message forum when his post are discredited. Next time do your homework before you try to wear the tech hat. And, if you work fixing Dell's as some part of your living - that means you are a loser in life.
