Dell PC question

I inherited a DELL pc and put a new HDD from another computer that's been running fine. The HDD has XP preloaded with all the software the way I want. Just too lazy to reload everything on the Dell. In any case when I put the drive in, the Dell pc won't boot off the OS. Works fine when I put in the other PC. Drives are set up on IDE 1, tried both Master and auto-select. What gives with these Dell? If I slave the drive it sees it fine but won't boot in Master.

You will need to boot the new drive with XP and do a repair install so
windows can get everything set properly for the dell motherboard

Is this a Dell thing? I've had a couple homebuild PC and never have to do this on other MBs. I ought to just yank the CPU and go back to homebuild PCs (that's the only reason I'm even considering using the Dell cause of the faster CPU).
