I have a Dell Dimension 4600 with 2.4 GHZ 80gb hdd. I won in a raffle a Compaq presario SR 1710 NX with a AMD Sempron 3400. Which one should I keep I am leaning toward the newer unit. I would appreciate your help.
 
The newer compaq. However, the Dell 4600 has an AGP slot, 4 DIMM slots for DDR memory, and supports up to a 3.2Ghz Pentium 4 Northwood, so if you ever want to play any games, check the spec's on the Compaq first before you make your decision. If you don't do any gaming, keep the Compaq.
 
Since you won the unit, its alright to switch to newer unit. If one had to buy the Compaq, I would buy a Dell. I tried Googling on the Compaq presario SR 1710 NX and got sidetracked and blocked. Maybe one can do better.

Since HP took over Compaq, Compaq's fortunes improved but not to the point where they are better than a Dell.
