Hi,

I have a buddy with a Dell Pentium 133 Desktop and he currently has 80 mb's of RAM running Windows 95. We're trying to speed it up a bit so he can run Windows 98.

More RAM? Faster chip? What's the fastest chip he can put on something like this? CPU Overdrive? New system? ;)

Any suggestions?

TIA,

Sal

I would suggest a new system, if you consider the costs of buy an overdrive CPU that might work in that system and any else you may add.

It will run Win98 now without a problem if you turn off all the animation.

Maybe a 200 non-mmx chip for about $20. With 80mb of ram I'd guess all four ram slots are filled. $30 for 2X32mb EDO....

..But for that money get an AT Motherboard and a 366 or so Celeron.

It really depends on his budget and how much effort he wants to expend.

Ouch. 133 MHz.

My MEMORY alone runs faster than that :) Sorry.
Is he really so cheap that he can't afford spending $300 or so on a used PC on Ebay that will be 5 times faster than this?! Optionally, you can build a new PC like 128 MB RAM, some Duron 800, cheap Mobo with integrated sound + video + 20 GB HD...
