Are these monitors identical other than the chasis? Any differences I should know about? Thinking of snagging one on ebay.

I need a nice high-end flat CRT to go with my Sony 19" G400, and I thought I'd jump to a 21". I can't find a higher-end FD trinitron model than the Sony G520.

Midiman...

I have both of those.

The Sony seems to have more anti-glare coating than the Dell.
The Dells colors jump out at you a little more. The Sony may be a little easier on the eyes.

The Dell is a refurb...

Be careful that you see the monitor before you buy it if at all possible. Look for scratches in the screen on a white background. That's when you can see them.

If it's not what you expect then you make get stuck with the $70 shipping fees.

You can't go wrong with either. They are fantastic monitors.

Thanks Macro2

Do they at least thave the same specs - i.e. refresh rates and resolutions?

I found a few on ebay for around $200 with guaranteed not DOA...I don't think I can go wrong at that price, but as always, it IS ebay.

Thanks a bunch.

I use the Sony at 1600 x 1200 and the Dell at 1024 x 768 (I use it to make web pages)

I don't know the resolutions off hand but I know both will to 1920...I hear they are the same monitor but I don't know for sure.

I guess you can look them up.

It might come down to the case color.
You WON't be dissapointed in either.
The Dell blows me away everytime I turn it on.

This is the sony model I have...it's the G520P---silver case.

I have a Dell P1130, in fact I've owned 2, both refurbished. I have not seen a G520 though, but AFAIK, they're different. The P1130 has a 0.24mm dot pitch while the G520 has a 0.22mm dot pitch IIRC.

As far as the Dell goes, my first one has very good clarity and general image quality. However, the chassis was cracked, so I RMA'ed it and got another one with a better chassis. The 2nd one however didn't have as good image quality. It's still pretty good, but the 1st one was noticeablly better.

Moral of the story? Image quality differs even within the same model/series, especially if you're buying refurbed.
