Dell or Lenovo?

I'm looking at virtually the same laptop but one is made by Dell, the other by Lenovo. The Lenovo is a T5500 and the Dell is a T5600. Same warranty and same price. Which would you choose? I heard that Lenovo is more reliable than Dell(duh).

Also, I'm a little confused by the DDR2-PC5300 description. When I looked for the frequency(533 or 667), I saw that it could be either.

PC2-5300 is not 533 or 667. It is only 667. PC2-4200 is DDR2 533

If they are the same price, go with the Lenovo. Better quality machine, better tech support.

If you want a better screen, get a dell. If you want a better keyboard, get a thinkpad. Thats really all there is to it.

really? I thought the general consensus was thinkpads had awesome screens? Either way, I'd much rather get a Thinkpad over a Dell any day of the week and twice on Sunday. I'm through with Dell and their ****** laptops.

The 15" IPS screens (1400x1050 and 1600x1200) are indeed phenominal, but the others aren't incredible.

Yes indeedy. The 14" SXGA+ screen gets the job done, but won't blow your socks off. However the 15.4" WSXGA+ is quite nice, near that of the IPS models IMO.

FYI 15" IPS screens are on the exctinction list...

I think that OP is talking about a Lenovo, not a Thinkpad. T5500 isn't a Thinkpad model. Lenevos seem to be ok; but I've heard neither accolades nor horror stories.

Dell vs. Lenovo? Sort like VW vs. MBenz. 🙂

I'd say more along the lines of AMC vs. Mercedes Benz.

(You know...the company that made the Gremlin?)

Lenovo's laptops are a small step down in quality from the Thinkpads, but it's more along the lines of stepping down from an Infiniti to a Nissan. They're still well-made laptops, but not quite to the same standard as the Thinkpads.

I would look at a refurbished or used Thinkpad with a warranty, or possibly an HP. (The HP Evo line is quite good.)

Get a dell. As long as it works you won't be disappointed at all. Affordable, great screen, great speakers, overall not too bad. If theres problems with it, look out. You might be able to call them up and get it fixed in no time or not. Its really a gamble with them. The build quality is not nearly as bad as this board proclaims and is actually fairly legit in most cases. My thinkpad has been great since i got it so its differences from a dell are overall minimal but i'm still very happy that i got it. I hope this helps.

Unless you're talking about a high-end model like the Phaeton, you're an idiot.
