Does anyone have this model comp with a 3.0 or 3.2ghz p4 running in it? I believe it supports the 800fsb, just cant find anything on it.

Looks like some GX270's use an 845 chipset MB and others use an 865.
845 chipset supports 533FSB CPU up to 3.06
865 will support 800FSB up to 3.4

Newer ones w/ I865G will work just fine w/ 800mhz bus CPU's I've got a 3Ghz northwood P4 in one and it works fine, it was an upgrade from a 2.66 533 bus cpu that got put on the shelf after my dad upgraded to a 3.44 EE recently. I'm using the A08 bios

ok cool, I guess i need to double check the chipset. His computer is at least 3 years old. Any PSU, heat worries?

*Blain: You better have that 3.2 ready 🙂

If you've worked w/ the 270's much, I'll just point out the obvious: they have mobo problems. I'd say about 20% of the 270's have had the "bubbling" capacitors, which dell has extended the warranty on. So, when you get in there, check out the capacitors on the mobo. If there are any that are looking suspicious, replace the mobo (dell should do this for free) because eventually, it will die.

Yeah, Ive had to have the mobo replaced already. Hes also running a Geforce 7800GS agp. Dont know if Im maxing the PSU yet. I know Directron sells higher watt Dell PSU's though for $25.
